Broken Script is short film loosely based on a short story written by Brioche in 2015.

Throughout the development of my thesis film, the story has undergone multiple revisions, each with its own set of animatics/storyboards. Here, you’ll find the first four iterations and the final product.

1st draft — 2047

2047 is a mere statistic in a sea of billions - literally. Just like everyone else, her entire future is pre-written in a series of digits, and her actions are dictated by the code of the System that the city runs on. Just like everyone else, 2047 is normal. Until she isn’t. SYSTEM ERROR. 2047 DOES NOT EXIST. Who are you when the System glitches?

Based on a short story written by Brioche in 2015, this initial draft remains the most faithful adaptation of the original work.

2nd draft — Renee

In a dystopian future, No. 40 rebels against a society where people are microchipped and controlled. As she approaches her 15th birthday, she discovers her true name and decides to destroy the system by pressing a red button hidden in a secret room, despite facing opposition from a mysterious man.

This adaptation is a reimagined spin-off of Brioche’s short story, set in a fictional city inspired by New York. In this version of my thesis film, I leaned more heavily into inspirations from The Giver by Lois Lowry and The Tripods by John Christopher.

3rd draft — I Will Always Remember you

A girl is sitting in her classroom when, without warning, she begins to glitch. Through this glitch, she begins to see memories of a past, different world.

For this version of my thesis film, I leaned more heavily into inspirations from The Giver by Lois Lowry and Haruki Murakami’s short story The Second Bakery Attack.
